The elephant with its trunk and tail up is a symbol of luck and spiritual wisdom in Asia and in many other parts of the world as well. I like the bright colors of Indian art and of the wonderful saris women wear. When I went to India it was like being on a different planet. The air smells different, trees and flowers are different, the wonderful birds and their songs, and of course the people. I chose to have some of India in my paintings, to remind me of the rich, heartfelt beauty of this country. I love elephants because of their friendly character and their sense for family. Although huge animals, they are gentle and sensitive beings taking care of each other, especially their little ones. I adorned them with jewelry and colorful ornaments, surrounded them with flowers and other animals who are lucky charms in many countries.
