Luna Moths are light chartreuse green moths with long, curving tails on their hindwings and distinctive eyespots on all four wings. They are rarely seen due to their brief (only one week long) adult lives.
These exotic large moths are now considered endangered in some areas.
The adults do not eat or have mouths. The moths emerge as adults, and exist solely to mate and reproduce. They are most commonly seen at night, and most mating occurs at night. This is the derivation of their name "luna," meaning "night" or "moon."
Males die shortly after mating and females die soon after laying eggs.
This image was captured during that brief interim period between mating and death.

I also enjoy capturing images of interesting flora and fauna, and wildlife images I am able to capture with my newest telephoto lens! I am a painter, as well as a photographer, and offer galleries of paintings and mixed media pieces. My interest in traditional art has spilled over to my post processing of photographs, and in addition to images with minimal post...
