Artist's Description

I shot this in my back yard in northern Maine towards the southeast. The Milky Way, Sirius, Orion, and Jupiter are all visible. The background is a carefully aligned and stacked image of 6 photos shot at 14mm, f/2.8, ISO 3200, and 30 seconds for a total overall exposure of 184 seconds. Noise reduction was done from 30 dark frames that I shot with the lens cover on at the same settings to remove hot pixels. At such a wide angle, the outer edges wont perfectly align. The star trails are from the first 60 frames of the timelapse covering a 30 minute time period. A lot of work went into selecting just a few of the brightest stars and making the tails fade out like meteors, with the brighter stars having longer trails than the dimmer stars, so they wouldnt wash out the Milky Way in the background. I think Ill keep my technique a secret for now though Enjoy! :-P
