Roanoke Virginia has many wonderful scenes to paint. I was up on Mill Mountain sketching with my painting group one overcast day and was never really happy with a realistic interpretation of this view. When I went home I was inspired to paint the view in colors as vibrant as the city itself. I had fun using my imagination and bold colors to interpret what was actually a rather gray day.

I grew up exploring the outdoors here in Southwest Virginia. My family would often go for long drives and end up hiking in the woods where my parents would identify plants and trees and point out animal tracks as they taught us to appreciate the awesomeness of God's creation. I can still remember the first time I saw a pink "Ladies Slipper" growing up out of a pile of leaves deep in a forest. Those adventures with my family still inspire my landscape paintings today but I'm also blessed with a group of friends who love to paint outdoors.
