Artist's Description
An abstract topographical map of Montreal, Quebec, showing elevations with color. In this image we see the Saint Lawrence River, highlighted in cyan, as it flows from bottom-left to top-right. At image's left, the Ottawa River enters below the Laurentian Mountains and meets up with the Saint Lawrence. Perhaps the most interesting feature on this image are the Monteregion Hills, the dotted blue shapes across the map, which are remnants of a volcanic complex and which include Mount Royal, for which the island city was named, at image's center.

A cartographer by trade, Paul Hein has devoted over 30 years to creating maps and images that display a visual clarity and effectiveness of design.
