When will I get my order???
This is a black canvas exercise of a cat flattening itself out in anticipation of attacking the fluttering insects above. This is a "black canvas" painting where I painted the whole thing from scratch. in oils. over a canvas painted solid acrylic black.
Like many artists you'll find here, I work in a variety of styles and genres, so you will find a broad spectrum of work in my galleries--something for everyone. It ranges from photorealism to stylized cubism, from romantic to silly, from the everyday to the strange, from the cute to the macabre. The bread-&-butter of my work has been what I call "Neo-Catism", an intentionally pretentious name for a satirical style of "modern" art centered around cats and their wacky behavior. These originally started out as a joke back in my college days, when I was lampooning the aesthetic ethics of the so-called "modern" artists in my classes who deliberately made crap--and ONLY crap--and walked around with their noses in the air as if they were on...

Klara Acel
I love your adorable cats Baron! She (or he?) is the favorite.
Baron Dixon replied:
This one is based on a "she" cat. A Maine Coon who liked to agitate birds in our garden. She would flatten herself out, like you see here, and stare up at the birds in the tree branches above with her tail lashing while the birds took turns dive-bombing her and cussing her out.

Love it!

Love how your creative mind works ..All your artwork is delightful in a weird sort of way ...right up my alley!! lol
Connie Valasco
This is a truly charming way you thought to do this painting.
Baron Dixon replied:
Thank you, Connie! This is one of the reasons I really enjoy the flexibility of oils. The whole black canvas was covered in transparent purple oil paint. To the casual observer it would look black, but then I'd load my brush with white paint and it would blend into the purple as I painted. This was painted mostly with a fan brush.
