This is the first dream that I remember dreaming, when I was about 3. In it, I was playing on the playground at the school in our small Wyoming town. I was too young for school, but my older brother and sister often took me there to play. Suddenly I floated upward, and felt safe and blissful. I wasn't afraid of falling or of floating lost into space, as if something kept me securely tethered in the thick, warm atmosphere. Now, recalling this dream, I wonder if it could have been a remembrance of the womb.

I have been an artist since I was knee high to a short-horned locust. My dad, Willoughby Senior (FAA) was a professional artist and writer and I have stepped in his shoes since I was born, though he drew horses better than I did when I was a kid. My family lived in a hand-hewn log cabin we built ourselves in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains and had no water or electricity. I love my life with my husband and family in Wyoming among the horses, gophers, deer, antelope, coyotes, red-tailed hawks, and the wild landscape. My work is driven by the land, animals, wild plants and birds I have come to know so well. Hummingbirds still try to get nectar from my upturned fingers. My artwork consists of all these things and more...
