"When I was 2 or 3 years old we lived near the river on a dirt street in the little Wyoming town of Saratoga. One spring day my teenaged brother Thor and sister Lenore took me on a walk down the gravel street, going to the store for ice cream. Along the way, they played my favorite game, singing, "One, two, three, WHEE!" and swinging me between them. Such joy! I vividly recall the colorful tulips in our yard as we walked by, the old cabin across the street and the junked trucks and equipment around it, and especially I remember the dust making the sunbeams palpable as they streamed through the cottonwoods which splotched the ground with shade and sun. I even remember that we bought neapolitan ice cream, but the day was so warm that by the time we reached home again, the ice cream had melted. I was disappointed that the chocolate, vanilla and strawberry flavors had all merged, but Thor and Lenore said it tasted best that way. And sure enough, when they handed me my little pink bow...

I have been an artist since I was knee high to a short-horned locust. My dad, Willoughby Senior (FAA) was a professional artist and writer and I have stepped in his shoes since I was born, though he drew horses better than I did when I was a kid. My family lived in a hand-hewn log cabin we built ourselves in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains and had no water or electricity. I love my life with my husband and family in Wyoming among the horses, gophers, deer, antelope, coyotes, red-tailed hawks, and the wild landscape. My work is driven by the land, animals, wild plants and birds I have come to know so well. Hummingbirds still try to get nectar from my upturned fingers. My artwork consists of all these things and more...
