Just what I wanted for a new iPhone. A special “Thank You” to artist ‘Serge Averbukh’ for the addition, at my request, to the design of my Navy rating, the lightening bolts (sparks as they are/were called) in the middle of the CPO insignia. I asked; he came through….When I use my phone, it brings back fond memories of my 20-year Navy career…. Thanks Serge….

This view from the top of the Empire State Building facing towards lower Manhattan was photographed in January of 1977. While the World Trade Center was only 3 and a half years old, it stood tall and conspicuous, as a symbol of the pride, hopes and aspirations of the millions of New Yorkers, people of all faiths and backgrounds, living and working in New York City. It was a time when Gerald Ford was President, Hugh Carey was Governor of NY State, Abe Beame was Mayor of NYC, the United States was not involved in any major wars, and the 'first' Star Wars was to be released later in the year.
September 11, 2001 was a very sad day in our American history and in world history. Being born and raised in New York City and living in nearby Connecticut, I was witness to the aftermath of the day, and to the impact on our day to day lives. Being a physician in nearby Greenwich CT, our hospital was on standby to receive injured survivors if they could be transferred from NYC hospitals....
Thank you for your interest in my photographs. My passion for birding and nature has taken me outdoors almost daily whether home in the USA, or on trips in East Africa, Israel, the Caribbean, and Brazil. I've been fortunate enough to have seen and photographed over 1000 species of birds, and I get a lot of satisfaction when I'm able to capture a beautiful and interesting shot and share it with others. I've had the honor of my bird photos recognized in prestigious competitions including "The Top One Hundred" of the Audubon Photo Contest, the "Honored Top 40" of the Nature's Best Backyards Photography Contest, and included in the "Nature's Witness" exhibition of 47 nature photographs (selected from 22,000 entries to the National Wildlife...

Such a magnificent silhouette. With the twin towers, this is definitely a keeper for all time. I also note that this angle shows just how tall they were and it is surprising.
Morris Finkelstein replied:
Thank you Mary for commenting on this photograph. I can't help but being saddened whenever I think of this view, that I grew up with, and have many memories of.
