This is the Great Grey Owl perched on a ponderosa pine branch in the middle of the Rocky Montians at night. The huge bird is up front and close in the painting, sitting on a downturned branch of a rocky mountain pine tree with a panoramic scene of the rocky mountains in the background. The mountains are steep and snow covered. The snow covered peaks in the distance reflect the moonlit night. Drifting clouds and a starry sky finish the backdrop of this wild and desolate landscape. The valleys behind and below the owl are filled with a thick forest of pine trees shaded purple and lavender due to thier distance and the moonlit night. The owls plumage shows cleary as it stares directly at the viewer. Its a cold winter night in Wyoming and the hunt is on.

I have been an oil painter my entire life. Many of the paintings that I do are sentimental rural settings. I also like to paint landmarks and paintings that tell a story like "Surprise Visit".
