This painting makes me happy!! The colors are really fun and, like his other pieces I own, expertly painted. I want to live in this cottage and walk into the ocean. Ordered it on canvas - well executed. Thank you for the smiles!

Artist's Description
It was built in 1899 by Manning Thigpen and named for his son Ezekiel who died when he was twelve. The little church was located in a very rural area in the pre World War I days before US highway No. 1 existed and once had a one room schoolhouse located beside it. The little church in the Wildwood, along with the school, served the community that became Pebble Hill. Before the church was built, we are told that this area was popular for caravans of wagons headed for St. Marys for salt water, which they evaporated producing salt. The salt was essential for preserving freshly killed meats and cooking.
We are pretty certain that the church you see above was the sister church of the Old Ruskin Church, which is also in Ware County and is featured on our website. The only meaningful differences in the churches is that Old Ruskin has been well cared for and Ezekiel is just about gone. This is especially tragic when the article mentions that the church was renovated in the late 196...
About Laura Ragland
I majored in art at the University of Georgia then LIFE, as it so often does, happened. 30 years later, retired from teaching drafting, art, residential design, photography, digital multimedia production and technology education, I picked up a good point and shoot digital camera and reclaimed my artist status. I am an opportunistic photographer, always looking for my next favorite image to come out of the camera. I am inspired by just being outdoors and near nature. The essence of art, to me, is not just the mastery of its form but the internal visions of the artist coming out so others can see them. I am passionate in my love for our coast of Georgia and it shows throughout my photography.I have been privileged to live here and I...

The fear, the fascination and the hope--fear of losing the past, the fascination with the inexorable force of time and nature, the hope of renewal that will save us from ourselves.
Laura Ragland replied:
Those are deep thoughts, Joe.Thank you for sharing them.

A wonderful photo of a church that has since bee left to rot when it should have been preserved. It is sad when so much oy history is destroyed either through indifference, historical turmoil or worse of all deliberate wanton destruction as the recent demolition of priceless and irreplaceable Assyrian art by the brain-dead ISIS 'holy warriors' .
Laura Ragland replied:
Thank you so much for your thoughts, Hartmut.
