Artist's Description

The steamer Novadoc stranded in Lake Michigan off Pentwater and broke in two on November 11, 1940. Two members of her crew were washed overboard as heavy seas swept over the vessel. On November 13th., the remaining crew of seventeen were rescued by the fishing tug Three Brothers.

About Captain Bud Robinson

Captain Bud Robinson

"As a Marine Artist, the only degree that I received came from a magnetic or gyro compass. So you could say that I have 360 degrees, and over the years have applied them all many times over. Growing up in Goderich, Ontario, a small town rich in marine heritage, I could often be found gazing out over the vast expanse of water, fascinated by its mystical appearance, and how the color and waves would change with the weather. My love for the Great Lakes, the sea, the ships, and my artistic family had inspired me since the day I was launched. I had to sketch, or paint my feelings the way I saw them.
