Artist's Description

The original inspiration for this piece was the symbol called the "Eye of Providence": a single eye set within the apex of a triangle, serving as a reminder of the all-seeing eye of God.

The symbol has recurred in many religious paintings in Europe during the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. Its most famous contemporary use is as part of the reverse of the Great Seal of the United States, which is featured on the rear of the American one-dollar bill.

The Eye of Providence is thought to have come originally from the Eye of Horus (a sky deity in the form of a falcon) in ancient Egyptian theology.

In the artwork shown here, the multiplicity of eyes depicted suggested the title "Oculi Omnium" ("The Eyes of All"). The meaning of the picture is left to each viewer.
