Well done...

Your great photo of this despondent person is a powerful statement of (and against) the disgraceful fact, that 80% of the homeless population in the US is made up of Veterans of the Armed Forces; and most probably in other countries to. It is despicable how we, as a society, pay them back.

WOW! Nice capture! v/f

Photographically this is a wonderful print, even though the topic isn't V F T & L ... Elaine

Kelly, This image is wonderful not only through your technical skills but also because of the subject matter. In the click of a shutter you have captured "real life" in so much of North America. The land of plenty for some....but definitely not all. Great capture of the human condition. Thank you for bringing awareness in a "dignified" way to the masses. v/f

Kelly Rader replied:

Thanks so much Barbara. What most people do not know is that a study showed that 80% of the homeless population in the US is made up of Veterans of the Armed Forces. My husband would go out and sit with the homeless while traveling all across the US and share stories. He would also bring like a picnic lunch down and sit and eat with them as they shared their life with him. My husband being a veteran himself has a huge calling towards the homeless and he himself realizes that there where times in his life that he could have shared the same fate as many of them. What bothered him the most is that allot of them would share stories about their families with him and how they missed them . But their families mostly because of the mental disabilities had turned their backs on them, because they did not know how to handle the situation. Now these men and women wonder the street searching to hold on to a thread of what life was.. I could go on and on but for now I will leave it at that :)

pay it forward 10/28
