This pathway is on one of the trails on top of Mill Mountain in Roanoke Virginia.

Sometimes when I'm having trouble getting a painting to say what I want it to- the best thing to do is sit down, close my eyes and remember...remember the sunshine, the soft wind, the sounds of birds and that swish of leaves under my feet stirring up that lovely smell of autumn and a rush of joy comes back to me... I can paint it...once remembered....with my heart.

I grew up exploring the outdoors here in Southwest Virginia. My family would often go for long drives and end up hiking in the woods where my parents would identify plants and trees and point out animal tracks as they taught us to appreciate the awesomeness of God's creation. I can still remember the first time I saw a pink "Ladies Slipper" growing up out of a pile of leaves deep in a forest. Those adventures with my family still inspire my landscape paintings today but I'm also blessed with a group of friends who love to paint outdoors.
