Chippy the Chipmunk always looks overstuffed when he's collecting peanuts from my back porch. I look forward to seeing him come out of hibernation every spring. Natural wildlife photo - taken October 2009, Clarks Valley, Pennsylvania

Chipmunks are small, striped rodents. The eastern chipmunk, known as the "Chipping Squirrel" is the largest of the chipmunks and is typically found in the eastern North America. Chipmunks have an omnivorous diet primarily consisting of seeds, nuts and other fruits, and buds. We have many wild chipmunks where we live and they love to steal peanuts and seeds from my birdfeeders.
