Artist's Description

When the tide goes out in Parksville, we can fully appreciate the extent of our sandy beach. The water recedes about 1 km and the bay is about 1 km wide at the water line. There's lots of room to wander, play, build sandcastles or just enjoy the sun. ..... Years ago, the annual sandcastle competition was held right on the beach. It was a one day event and participants had to complete their projects before the rising tides came in and washed them away. ..... Today, the event has grown into an international competition. Participants have 3 days to build their masterpieces (above the tide line) and they are left standing for a month so tourists can appreciate them as part of our Beach Fest. ..... This scene shows a different picture. The beach at this time of year looks empty, with just the occasional walker. It won't be long though, before summer is here and the crowds return.
