I purchased this fine painting from Mr. Smith as a present for a relative. Much to my dismay, I was so intigued by it that it is now proudly hanging in my office. This piece is very soothing to me, taking me back to a place I remember fondly as a young boy growing up in the Midwest. The detail is perfect as is the scale of all elements. As a child my favorite thing to draw was cartoon characters, especially Pop-eye. As I grew older and time passed, my one and only sister married. The man she married was an excellent artist and he started to teach me the basics of drawing and then eventually painting with oils. I was starting to do pretty well and around this time it was discovered that my sister, who had played a large part of my early childhood development, had uterine cancer. This was devastating to the entire family, but I took it pretty hard being the youngest of three boys and our only sister, along with her little daughter, Wendy. I continued for a short while in painting after the death of my sister, but eventually I no longer had the heart for it and pretty...
