Description
Peenemunde rocket testing site, Germany. This site was used during World War II to test the rockets developed by a team led by German rocket scientists Wernher von Braun and Walter Dornberger. The testing site (Heeresversuchsanstalt) had been established in 1937, chosen because it was on the coast and rockets could be launched over the Baltic Sea. It was here that many of the basics principles of rocket technology were developed. Rockets developed here include the V-1 and V-2. The first V-2 flew on 3rd October 1942.
