This is spectacular, James! One of the most dramatic shots of this iconic spot, complete with a double rainbow! L/F!

Artist's Description

Arguably the most famous archaeological site in South America, the Inca city of Machu Picchu sits high on a ridge above the Urubamba River not far from Cusco. The steep peak behind the site is called Huayna Picchu. Probably built during the reign of the Inca Pachacutec in the 15th century, it was never found by the Spanish and remained unknown to the outside world until the arrival of the American explorer Hiram Bingham in 1911. Rainbows were considered sacred by the Incas and are frequently seen at Machu Picchu in the rainy season. Here a fine double rainbow rises from the depths of the Urubamba canyon on a stormy afternoon. Photograph © James Brunker.
