Thank you Stafford! I like working in BW sometimes during the year usually season changes.

I like the naturalism of the composition and the reserve on the detail.

Thank you, Donna. I think I enjoy this type of gnothic behavior..like ants do.

I really like this Charlie! I am an awe of the detail you acheived with this technique. v/f

Charlie~I absolutely love prints and this is gorgeous! Fantastic work you are doing, as always. v/f/fb

Wow! You are amazing. I've always wanted to try linoleum cuts. Thanks for the inspiration.

Nice. The printmaking, linoleum cut medium works for you - that "tension in the lines' that infuses so much of your painting is really coming through here. Plus, I can tell by the contrasts in tone and line density, the perspective and form etc. that this is a print by someone who can paint his ass off (if you'll pardon my saying).

Artist's Description

I am working on a series of Black and white prints. This has been a break from my painting. I have always like linoleum print making. This is a new material I am testing and I find it actually more suitable than the old brown and battleship gray linoleum. This material needs to be heated before carving but works very nicely for small detail if worked cold. The pose came from a drawing by Karl Smidt-Rotluff a German Expressionist.

About Charlie Spear

Charlie Spear

Charlie Spear was born in 1948 in the Midwest. The era of Modern Art was in full swing with the Sixties generating an artistic smorgasbord of art styles and new media. Much of his early career was spent learning about art through teaching art in H.S. and College. Exploring the art media's physical qualities is an important element in his style coupled with a love of an impressionistic drawing style. The result is a charged surface of automatic line energy and raw color expression. His work is a reflection of familiar and even common events in his life which connects him with the larger population of earth's dwellers. When I paint and draw, just enough concrete imagery remains, to call the idea I express as Illusary Prose....
