The Mill Pond overlooks the old Michelin Tire Factory. The site has been a part of the small town for over 100 years. According to Preservation New Jersey, Michelin, a French tire manufacturer, chose Milltown as the location for its first American factory in 1907. Construction of the factory started the same year. During the factory's peak years they would employ more than 2,000 people. Michelin even built bungalows in town to help improve living conditions for their employees.

Due to the depression the company closed the factory in Milltown and moved back to France in 1930. Several other companies used the buildings after their departure, Chicopee of J&J, Heidingsfeld Printing Co., Algro Knitting Mills and Alphaduct Wire.

The area is scheduled for demolition.
