Original artwork by Lou Knapp Alabama monument at Gettysburg: Alabamians! Your names are inscribed on fames immortal scroll Created and sculpted by Joseph W. Urner The female figure represents the Spirit of the Confederacy pointing forward with her left hand while gently restraining a wounded soldier with her right hand. The wounded soldier passes a cartridge box to his fellow Alabamian so he can continue the struggle without him. The monument stands where General Evander Law's brigade of Alabamians began their assault on Little Round Top on the second day of the battle. Alabama sent almost 6,000 men to Gettysburg with the Army of Northern Virginia. Of these, 2,249 became casualties.
