Just what I wanted for a new iPhone. A special “Thank You” to artist ‘Serge Averbukh’ for the addition, at my request, to the design of my Navy rating, the lightening bolts (sparks as they are/were called) in the middle of the CPO insignia. I asked; he came through….When I use my phone, it brings back fond memories of my 20-year Navy career…. Thanks Serge….

It's all downhill from here. Or so I thought as I spotted this landscape close to Hatcher Pass. I could hear nothing except the cold, rushing water, running down and splashing into the nearby tundra. I bundled up against the biting fog, and dove in--to the painting, that is. I relished the oblivion that comes from total concentration on painting what is in front of me.
I accepted the challenge of using what is known as the Zorn palette for this painting--a very limited color palette of red, yellow ocher, blue-black, and white. I was rather surprised at how much I could do with so little.
In life, we are not all gifted with equal talents and abilities. We aren't all given the same privilege, opportunity, or capability. Some have more. Others have less. What we *do* have in common however, is the ability to grow, to stretch, to become more than what we were, to improve and build upon our foundation. We can mix the colors we've been given into a zillion different combination...
Israeli born, Talya Johnson is an impressionist artist working in Salem, Oregon. She's influenced by the light, color and brushwork of the impressionists; as well as the depth, luminosity and draftsmanship of the old masters and academic artists.
