Beautiful print! The only thing I don’t love is the imprint from the wood at the back of the canvas. Maybe different packaging would help?
Artist's Description
SBD - Douglas Dauntless
The SBD nomenclature stood for Scout Bomber Douglas but often referred to as slow but deadly. With close 6,000 built the Dauntless played a major role in the Pacific operations being particularly effective as a dive-bomber serving with the US Navy and Marine Corps.
The battle of the Philippine Sea demonstrated the ability of the Dauntless when 215 carrier aircraft were tasked at the limit of their range resulting in a loss of 80 aircraft as they ran out of fuel, and daylight - 26 Dauntless took part and all returned. The image shows a lone Dauntless making for home (carrier) in the last of the tropical light.

That is a beautiful SBD picture you got there Pat! I love your mastery of clouds. I just finished assembling a model of a Dauntless and have it hanging from my ceiling from 3 threads the same color as the beige walls so it looks suspended in mid air. I'm a big fan of WWII technology and especially the great battle of Midway. My Dauntless and a Hellcat are suspended over my 1/350 scale model of the USS Enterprise, which is the last picture on my site.
Pat Speirs replied:
Thanks John, great to hear from an enthusiast - especially with such an impressive carrier model, first class.
Douglas Castleman
Another beautiful piece, Pat...The plane that won the Battle of Midway, even though the Hornet's SBDs completely missed the battle due to poor leadership.
Pat Speirs replied:
Tremendous feats of airmanship, striking so far and having to find a moving 'home' afterwards. Thanks for your input, really appreciated.
Sharyn Winters
As always love your work, Pat, congrats on this work.
