About John Helgeson

John Helgeson

Born 1931 in North Dakota, he traveled extensively with his family and eventually settled in California. He earned his BFA in Advertising Art in 1959 and an MFA in Printmaking in 1961 at California College of the Arts in Oakland, California. With the exception of teaching print-making at California State University, Hayward, most of his career was spent working as a art director in advertising agencies. Early in his career, he worked in stone lithography, etching, woodcuts and serigraphy. He now works only in digital medium. In 1961 his prints were selected to be included in “Recent American Prints,” a group exhibit of contemporary American prints that toured Asia.
