Even the AVE train has windshield wipers! There was a snow/ice mix covering everything, including this train, when I left Segovia Spain one February morning. And my fingers were freezing as I stood on the platform trying to take this picture! AVE stands for Alta Velocidad Espanola, the high speed rail system in Spain operated by RENFE, the Spanish national railway company. The Spanish AVE system is the longest high speed rail network in Europe with 1332 miles of track. It is run on a dedicated high speed rail track, and on the trip to Segovia reached speeds of 250 kmh. Traveling from Madrid to Segovia or Toledo is therefore an easy and enjoyable 30 min trip. You can step back a century from the big city in a very short time! Plus the trains run on time!
