Artist's Description
I took a photo of this little squirrel while visiting friends in Salem, OR. He was definitely begging for food but it seemed he was also begging to have his picture taken with his glorious, fluffy tail as his pride and joy. I took the image home and painted him on watercolor paper using the dry brush technique. The pine cone is an eastern white pine cone with sap on the tip of each bract which blends with the winter scene of snow.
About Inger Hutton
When I was about 10 years and my brother in law was working on a silk screen of a hand holding a deck of cards. To my surprise he said the hand would be the easiest part. He was following the outer contour of the hand while even then I was seeing the fingerprints, wrinkles and creases. Today more than 50 years later that is still my focus. In the forest, I am the one who is likely to find the delicate mushroom tucked under the log we just stepped over. The beauty in the fine detail of nature is still the focus of my art and I love to reflect that beauty in my art.
