Bruce your words made my day! Yes I am patient ....and a bit crazy about meticulous details!!!! Thank you thank you!!!

Dear Victoria de Almeida! "Congratulations on your sale," everyone says. I would like to add how precious is your well-written and enticing is your descriptive account of Pascual Bailon. I am so glad that he became a saint! Do doubt my fault, but I do not make out the litter of kittens being fed. However, I do appreciate the cute little mouse probably about to venture out of its "doorway" while the mother cat is busy! Ah, now with FAA's wonderful magnifier I make out the kittens bodies to out right of the mother. I also get a great view of your amazing pains-taking work on the rug you are standing on. The magnifier is so helpful in seeing and appreciating tiny details of a fine, careful, and so marvelously skilful and patient a painter as you are. I look forward to seeing the rest of your gallery, and I thank this sale for introducing your art to me. Peace, etc., Bruce Combs

Artist's Description

Pascual Bailon (1540-1592) was born, in May of 1540 in Torre Hermosa, Aragon, Spain. In his youth he was a sheep herder and was often seen praying in the pastures. His faith led him to the Franciscan monastery in Loreto. Because he was uneducated, the friars would only accept him to do menial tasks such as cooking. His devotion to his faith and kindness of heart to the poor made him beloved by all. San Pascual is the patron saint of cooks and the kitchen. He is especially loved in New Mexico. I have depicted him here preparing a traditional New Mexican meal for his Franciscans. He is making homemade tortillas and green chile. His kitchen cat is happily feeding her litter of kittens. San Pascual is my favorite saint to paint because of my love and memories of my Grandma Reynalda Almeida. She lived in a little adobe casita near Canyon Road in Santa Fe, New Mexico. The heart of my Grandma's home beat in the kitchen. As we drove to her home down the little hill street of Camino Sin...

About Victoria De Almeida

Victoria De Almeida

Through my work I always hope to tell a story about my personal experiences as a Hispanic woman. I was born and raised in the beautiful state of New Mexico and my family has been in northern New Mexico for over 10 generations. My work comes from my memories of growing up in a large extended family and my favorite subjects to paint are the people and traditions of northern New Mexico. Both my father and grandfather are artists, so I grew up surrounded by work. I have always loved art and have wanted to become an artist for as long as I can remember. My primary medium is acrylic on canvas. I have also enjoyed using acrylic on wood as well. As a self-taught artist, I really fight looking at something when I'm painting or sketching. I...
