The aluminum sheet is offset from the wall by a 3/4" thick wooden frame which is attached to the back. The wooden frame includes a hanging wire for easy mounting on your wall (see photo on the left).

Artist's Description
After the Sand Creek Massacre in Colorado in the early 1860s, in which sleeping Cheyenne villagers were slaughtered by soldiers, Wyoming's tribes, including the Arapaho, Ute, and others, became more determined to keep white settlers from taking over their hunting grounds. The artist has seen the remote locations along the Overland Trail where warriors attacked stage coaches, burned stage stations, and engaged in battles with solders stationed at a rugged fort along Sage Creek. This is one of the historical vignettes from Dawn's River Mural.
About Dawn Senior-Trask
I have been an artist since I was knee high to a short-horned locust. My dad, Willoughby Senior (FAA) was a professional artist and writer and I have stepped in his shoes since I was born, though he drew horses better than I did when I was a kid. My family lived in a hand-hewn log cabin we built ourselves in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains and had no water or electricity. I love my life with my husband and family in Wyoming among the horses, gophers, deer, antelope, coyotes, red-tailed hawks, and the wild landscape. My work is driven by the land, animals, wild plants and birds I have come to know so well. Hummingbirds still try to get nectar from my upturned fingers. My artwork consists of all these things and more...

Yes, Duncan, this obviously is based on an old print, not a historical photo as are my other vignettes from the River Mural! A photographer would have to be quite a time traveller to snap this picture! The action depicted is very real to the history of this area, however, and many hair-raising accounts of those violent days survive, including that of a woman stage passenger who loaded firearms for the men as they fended off angry warriors.
