This piece was accepted into the Colorado Governor's Art Show and was featured on their website and in the show catalog. Although there are many ranches now raising "domestic bison", make no mistake, these massive animals are "still wild."

Kate Dardine

At an early age Kate Dardine felt a connection with birds and animals that inhabited the fields and woodlands where she grew up in Connecticut. “In my latest work,” Kate explains, “Colorful brush strokes and scribbles applied enthusiastically and intuitively to the surface of an un-toned canvas mark the beginning of the creation process for each of my paintings. The ensuing patterns can be dense and tangled, geometric or light and lacy. Calligraphic marks and words often appear and disappear in the layers. From this chaotic start, where nothing is censored, I then begin a subtractive process to find the form hidden within the tangle."
