Hi Iker...I like your image. Your photojournalistic style is excellent. This image really "tells a story" which is often lacking in photographs. Your gallery has many interesting works. Well done...Cheers Bob

Thank you Marcia!

Ilker, I noticed lots of children playing in the streets at all hours during my visit in Istanbul. The mother's seem never to be far away keeping watch over the activities. It gave me a sense of security while there. Interesting that you captured the interaction of the handicapped child, so accepted and included by his mates. voted

Ilker Goksen replied:

Thank you Cheri. Yes, it's still pretty common in most parts of Turkey for the children to spend their time outside playing with their peers. You'll see that especially in lower income neighborhoods where kids are not held captive by computers and game consoles.

Excellent capture with a real story, nice b&w, f/v.

Artist's Description

2011 International Photography Awards, The USA | Honorable mention In 2009, I was staying in a hotel nearby a small rural town on the south of Turkey. During my stay, I saw those kids everyday playing streetball on that empty and unused parking lot around an old basketball hoop that somebody put together for them. As far as I could understand, they were at school age, but none of them seemed to go to school. I was seeing them outside playing all day long. And after their game was over, the mother of the child with the wheelchair would come and take him back home. That was their routine. Seeing children just enjoying their time together regardless of the differences between them was something that is hard to see with people today. www.ilkergoksen.com
