While on board a charter fishing boat in November 2011 heading out into the ocean from Oceanside, New York located on the south shore of Long Island for some winter fishing at 6:30am. Photographed this picturesque photo as the Fishing Charter began to speed up and the sun broke through the clouds and slightly above the horizon as the water started to become rough and splash into the boat. Wanted to capture in one shot the sun just crossing the horizon, the rough waters, the clouds beginning to be hidden by the rising sun and the speed of the boat picking up and splashing water all over. I fish the bays and inlets of the south shore of Long Island. These bays are seperated from the Atlantic Ocean by a series of barrier islands. The bay is mostly shallow water flats and salt marsh, the deeper water can be found around the channels and inlets. The maxium depth is 30 or 40 feet.
