Artist's Description

Interpreting the photos by W.E.B. DuBois that were compiled and displayed during the Paris Exposition of 1900 to dispel racism. I experimented with applied texture to give the work an aged quality. Working in black and white I also use unexpected color to add drama and bring to eye to certain areas.

Joyce Owens Biography Owens recently exhibited her work in Turin, Italy and has been included in the Arts In Embassies Program in Stockholm, Sweden, Mbabane, Swaziland, NATO, in Brussels, Belgium, Monrovia, Liberia and Guyana. The traveling exhibition, "Chicago Artists Interpret Shakespeare: As They Like It" opens Oct. 1, 2016 at the Fourth Presbyterian Church on Michigan Ave. in Chicago, IL., and has been presented at the Beverly Arts Center in Chicago, Carthage College in Wisconsin and Bowling Green University in Ohio. Her work and other artists were also included in a documentary on Shakespeare that was featured on public television. She has had numerous solo exhibitions, recently at the South Side Community Art Center in Chicago...
