This is called the Ant's Castle because without ants, the peony cannot open. This was my first peony in the garden even after my neighbor tried to kill off the ants.

I paint in oil and watercolors. The medium of choice depends on my mood and the subject. I like the transparency and brightness of watercolors. It seems to be a crisp yet fluid medium in which to work. I enjoy working with oils as well. Its pungent aromas are nostalgic for me because it was my first medium. When I paint with oils, I literally immerse myself into the painting, as evidenced by my work clothes. Selecting which medium can be a practical decision and at others times, more of whim. Whatever medium, for me, creating art is a public way to express private emotions. Although this expression can be a risk as well as a thrill, I feel most complete while painting.
