This is the third part of the series looking over the solent to the Isle of Wight. it was later in the afternoon and the sun was starting to lower. Compared to the two earlier pieces most of the big shower clouds had gone leaving some high level cirrus. I like the effect of the strong diagonals against the now deep green blue of the sea. I remember trying to walk home with three wet panels balanced on a box lid wasn't easy!

I'm a landscape painter from the Isle of Wight, a small island off the south coast of England. The subject of all my paintings is simply the distance. The feeling of space when we stand in front of a landscape and look into the distance. The effect of the colours, tones and lines. I want to find the moment when we suddenly see something unfamiliar, something infinite. I paint in oils on small wooden panels. I like the way the smooth surface of the wood makes the paint drag and blend in unexpected ways. The colours also stand out more because the paint isn't absorbed so much as on canvas. I like to use just primary colours, 3 blues, 2 yellows, 2 reds and white. By blending everything only from the primaries it creates lots of subtle...
