Not my first time commenting on this shot...but it is so damn good. Love it.

Amazing find, well done! The dead vines at lower left add just the right touch.

Nice how the focus of your eyes follows that railing shadow up the stairs and to the doorway.

Lois Bryan replied:

Hi Marcia, thank you!!! Did you get out into the "yard" ... the big space where they let the inmates wander around a bit? It was sort of in the middle of the place. This door was on the opposite end of the yard from where we entered it.

Oh Wow...Lois, this is absolutely brilliant work here sweetheart!!! I love all the geometrics, the awesome earth tones, textures, and the incredible story this tells.....so many possibilities - this image gets my pick of the day!!! Joyce

Lois Bryan replied:

Joyce, thank you so much, sweetie. You're like me then, I get caught up in angles and lines ... the geometry ... of an image. Which is, admittedly, a bit of a snicker on my part, as geometry in school was NOT my best subject, lol!!!! Thanks again!!!!!

Gorgeous Louis!! Congratulations on such a super work!

Lois Bryan replied:

Lianne ... you are such a sweetie ... thank you!!! How appropriate your quote!!!! This is really an extraordinary ... even tho the skies were clear blue and it was a beautiful day, still ... there was a feeling ... a mood ...

Artist's Description

NOTE: FINE ART AMERICA WATERMARK WILL NOT APPEAR ON PURCHASED IMAGE. Second place winner in the Fine Art America "Anything Rusty and Old" contest September 13, 2013. First Place in the "Interesting Doors" contest on Fine Art America May 24, 2012. One of the locked doors to the open exercise area at the Pennsylvania Eastern State Penitentiary in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. I was fascinated with the textures of the stone and the rust and the harsh shadows created by the un filtered sunlight. Image taken with the Nikon D300 and the 18-200mm vr Nikon lens April 12, 2011. Image treated to hdr from a single, hand held .jpg image in Photomatix, duplicated twice Photoshop CS4. Also tinkered with in CapNX2 and Camera Raw. My thanks to Skeletal Mess and Princess of Shadows for the textures.
