HI Dawn - A wonderful interpretation of your Father's stories of 'Moon Horses', one feels the delicately sculpted horse is already in flight, I also like the icons symbolizing night - Appreciate your thoughts on 'Dawn 4', it was a wonderful experience to be able to capture the four stages of sunrise - Chris

Artist's Description

Dawn's Moonhorse was inspired by a dream in which her late father, Willoughby Senior, who was also an artist and who taught her to ride when she was 3, helped her find a blue bronze horse buried deep in the earth beside the log cabin where Dawn was raised. When she woke up, she felt that the image of this horse was a gift her father' spirit had brought to her, and that he meant for her to make a sculpture of it. It wasn't until she had completed the horse that she remembered the stories her father had told her when she was little about the mysterious moonhorses that could only be seen at night, and even then only by people with kind hearts. She added the image of the moon and stars, as well as other symbols whose meaning she and her father shared.

About Dawn Senior-Trask

Dawn Senior-Trask

I have been an artist since I was knee high to a short-horned locust. My dad, Willoughby Senior (FAA) was a professional artist and writer and I have stepped in his shoes since I was born, though he drew horses better than I did when I was a kid. My family lived in a hand-hewn log cabin we built ourselves in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains and had no water or electricity. I love my life with my husband and family in Wyoming among the horses, gophers, deer, antelope, coyotes, red-tailed hawks, and the wild landscape. My work is driven by the land, animals, wild plants and birds I have come to know so well. Hummingbirds still try to get nectar from my upturned fingers. My artwork consists of all these things and more...
