Artist's Description

This is an abstracted airplane depicting Howard Hughes Spruce Goose. It actually starts up and sounds like a real plane complete with lights. Tail and steering wheel move randomly. You can see this operate on (Utube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IAkkMXBEvDM) Made of 13 ply hardwood plywood, old fan cover, two fan blades, motors, strobe light, indicators and the ghost image of Howard at the wheel. Suitcase houses the amplifier and speakers for the sound that is actually created by the propellers turning. To see more photos go here http://www.relaypoint.net/~arctv/close/howard.html

My father was another early influence on my work; he was a metal and wood worker, and I learned building skills from him. He was very resourceful and inventive, whipping together small buildings and additions on our property....
