Atop a ridge above the cabin, among many huge groupings of boulders, cedars and junipers, Dawn is attracted to this tall one. She stands among retreating snowdrifts to draw the portrait of this tree that has survived centuries of Wyoming gales, blizzards, lightning, and the attacks of browsers, gnawers and borers. If only our own struggles would give us such strength and grace.

I have been an artist since I was knee high to a short-horned locust. My dad, Willoughby Senior (FAA) was a professional artist and writer and I have stepped in his shoes since I was born, though he drew horses better than I did when I was a kid. My family lived in a hand-hewn log cabin we built ourselves in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains and had no water or electricity. I love my life with my husband and family in Wyoming among the horses, gophers, deer, antelope, coyotes, red-tailed hawks, and the wild landscape. My work is driven by the land, animals, wild plants and birds I have come to know so well. Hummingbirds still try to get nectar from my upturned fingers.
