A beautiful printed card I will frame. Susie is a versatile artist and I always enjoy her art.

I love the artist and usually purchase her originals or prints and have been extremely satisfied with them, but this original and some others were sold so I purchased cards to frame. I have to comment that this card was a little dark and if it could be lightened a little, it would better represent the artwork. The artist is one of my favorites.

About Paul Hilario
I paint visual narratives. I try to create stories with themes that range from the blissful to the brooding. Typically, my compositions are laden with common and personal symbolism. My works seem to have disconnected elements but they are in fact linked in the way that I see them. To the audience, however, they are like puzzles; open to varied personal interpretations. I don’t like to confine myself in a box. Some days I paint social commentaries. Other days I just paint my personal observations of issues that pertain to almost anything under the sun - this can be political, social, environmental, religious, cultural, and even agricultural. I try to paint realities in, out, and of life. Early in my career as a painter, I was mostly...

I've looked at this piece several times, Paul. The work is consistent with your usual mood--a silent dialogue between what unfolds on a stage-like, almost carnival setting and the viewer. The viewer is teased by a seemingly random collection of "messengers" delivering some kind of message, arranged with careful precision. These figures are not randomly dropped, but are grouped, however personal the artist's motive is. One-by one, we focus on the individuals, challenged by the disconnect, yet their apparent relationship. Again you achieve that credo that I demand of all art to be successful: make us think, even shutter, but don't let us relax. Good job again!
Paul Hilario replied:
Hi Ken. So nice to hear from you again. Again, excellent commentary! Indeed all the characters are interconnected but seem to be minding each one's business. I don't put in full descriptions of my work now. I like to keep people guessing or formulating their own interpretations. It keeps the panting fresh this way, I think. This painting was exhibited in the Singapore Art Trek 2013. This is an annual event by the Philippine Embassy in Singapore whereby selected Filipino artists are given the opportunity to join several exhibitions in Singapore. I was invited and this piece alongside with Metanoia and Sequela, to my extreme happiness, was placed smack at the front of the gallery for everyone to see, even to passersby who would have no intention of entering the gallery. As expected, only a few appreciated it - only those who have deeper knowledge and understanding of how a painting works, where the only ones who had good words for it. Thank you once more!
