Jet Age - Series F86 Sabre
�Those were the days����.�
Just a little exercise in nostalgia - a couple of nights ago here there was a fine colourful sunset with an airliner drawing a golden contrail out to the west. This formed the inspiration for this image - along with all the memories of the quiet beauty of such high altitude flight, long before the skies became crowded with commercial stuff - so the archive trawl came up with these F86 images and a suitable sky. The lyric just adds the final touch - if you can remember it you are of a certain age!!
One of the real classics of the early jet age the F86 (Sabre) saw much operational action in Korea and continued in front-line service well into the 1950�s. As elegant in design as it was capable in performance the Sabre remained a favourite with many Air Forces. The RAF took delivery of over 450 with the RCAF another enthusiastic user - there are numerous exam...
Have been interested in photography since just after WW2, when film became freely available again, using Kodak Autographic equipment. Graduated, in the 50's, to 35mm and was involved in photographic work during my 17 yrs as RAF aircrew - navigator. Since retirement and migrating to Canon digital equipment have been involved with two of my sons and one grandson in a considerable amount of photographic activity, particularly composite images. Now producing digital art prints with the major emphasis on classic warbird aviation. With son, Duncan, now becoming a well-known and published wild life photographer we have started, in 2017, a new gallery reflecting Scottish sea birds - and 'feathered' flight
