Using a lightning trigger on my camera I was photographing a lightning storm in the middle of night in the jungle. We were in the Mesoamerican Biological Corridor, about 2.5 hours from Panama City. This huge bolt struck about a quarter of a mile from our cabana. It caused temporary blindness, the hair on our arms and back of our neck stood up, and almost knocked us down. My wife joined me on our deck as the storm grew more violent. right before the strike we saw a dotted line of light strike the ground, then the dots connected and finally this amazing bolt, probably happened in less than a nano second. One heck of a lightning strike! It took about two days before our vision was back to normal.
