Just what I wanted for a new iPhone. A special “Thank You” to artist ‘Serge Averbukh’ for the addition, at my request, to the design of my Navy rating, the lightening bolts (sparks as they are/were called) in the middle of the CPO insignia. I asked; he came through….When I use my phone, it brings back fond memories of my 20-year Navy career…. Thanks Serge….

Artist's Description

Transit circle, Edinburgh Observatory, Scotland. A transit instrument is used to measure the positions of the stars as they transit a pre-defined point. This 8.6-inch (22 centimetres) transit telescope was part of the equipment donated by the Earl of Crawford (James Lindsay) in 1888 to set up a new Royal Observatory (1894) on Blackford Hill, Edinburgh. For this instrument at its previous location (the Dunecht Observatory), see image R102/0238. The instrument was made by the telescope manufacturers Troughton and Simms. At the Blackford Hill site, it was housed in a separate building to the west. The closed observation shutters are at top.
