What inspired me to paint this image, is the expressions of the horses. The horse farthest on the left it trying with all it's might to make the jump as it throws it's head up high. The horse in the middle, is laughing, you can make up the words he would use if only he could. And the one that is just doing it's job, oblivious to what is happening is beautifully making the jump in perfect unison with the horse in the middle. I'm sure the rider is aware and would prefer all the horses in perfect unison, but not sure it would make as great an image.
I shot this image at the Mt. Vernon Rodeo in 2014, and since then I have been wanting to recreate this image.
I start with a photo that makes me smile and then transform it into something that will be cherished for a lifetime. Using a snapshot or a photograph, I digitally "paint" using a Wacom tablet and a stylus pen. Some are photo-realistic, while others are a bit more impressionistic. Art has been part of my life since the day I could hold a crayon and scribble on paper. Always a creative and a technician, it was a natural fit for me to spend my life playing around with graphics on computers. Long before desktop computers I worked first as an electronic technician, then fell into typography and graphic design; creating visually pleasing communicative art. As a graphic designer, I've done everything from full-page ads to complete magazine...
