A Triumph Bonneville T120 from 1962.
Between 1955 and 1962, Triumph broke the world land speed record for motorcycles three times at the Bonneville Salt Flats. These achievements sold a lot of motorcycles and resulted in Triumph's introduction of its iconic T120 Bonneville in 1959. Twin carburetors had been used on some 500cc Triumphs previously and dealers offered an aftermarket twin-carb conversion for the 650cc TR6. With the arrival of the Bonnie in 1959, customers could have a 650 with twin carbs right off the showroom floor as well as hot cams, an alloy head and high compression pistons. Triumph was already the darling of the cool, bad boy types. This spilled over into popular culture as, with generations as disparate as Marlon Brando in The Wild One (1953) and Warren Beatty in Shampoo (1975) riding Triumphs in their roles.
