Sorry for the late response, Barbara. Thank you for your service, too. The veterans families also serve by sacrificing their time with their loved ones. But it isn't only the time they sacrifice, it's the toll it takes on their hearts and minds during the service. No one can ever say "thank you" enough. My heart truly goes out to all of you family members.

V, F, Watch, posted to the USA ARTISTS NEWS ...... Thanks again, PTSD destroyed my first marriage, to first the girl I loved since about 12years, AND the woman married for nine years, who could not handle life with me. We split. Five years later, married Nadine, who could deal with my emotional problems for the next 14 years, while I studies Psychology earning a Ph.D. Then did extensive research which eliminated the worst of the effects of PTSD, that the VA could not help. Photography and Painting has also helped, but over 50 years later and still dealing with some issues which are triggered by the news from Afghanistan or Iraq that bring tears to my eyes. Memories of Brothers who died in Korea . . . Our Family has served since the Revolution, with 17 members in the Army and Navy then, one received the Ninth Purple Heart that Washington personally awarded. Others have served in every war. Two were awarded the Medal of Honor in the Civil War one who wounded, sent to the hospital, and discharged. Then, picked up a rifle and equip, in spite of wounds, returned to his Unit and was killed at Gettysburg... 13 Uncles Served in all branches in WWII, one Killed in the Bulge. The First Marine to be awarded the Medal of Honor in Iraq, Jason Dunham a cousin, was KIA covering a grenade to save 8 marine's lives... Two of my sons served three Grandsons, one who is on his way into combat. Cant count the number of Uncles, Nephews, Nieces and Cousins who have served in our large family. . . . . . . . . "Freedom is Not FREE."

Carolyn Marshall replied:

First, Bob, thank you from the bottom of my heart for your service to our country and the sacrifices you and your family made and continue to make. No, freedom absolutely is NOT free. My husband also suffered from PTSD but has been able to deal with it over the years, so it doesn't haunt him as much now as it did when he first came home. It is something one who has served will never be totally free from. But many make their way back to a reasonable life with medical help and the love, care and understanding of family and friends. I'm glad to found a good woman to help you through.

Thank you, Bob and Sue.

Artist's Description

Standing under the United States of America flag Vietnam veterans remember comrades who have died. The flag stands out against the clear blue sky. Poem Writing A New Book was written and is copyrighted by Carolyn Marshall. I know many veterans who deal daily with PTSD and memories of their service they cannot seem to shake. I wrote this to show that there is hope and that no matter how long it takes, we are here for them.

About Carolyn Marshall

Carolyn Marshall

I have been a photographer for many years. For so long, in fact, that I can no longer imagine my life without a camera to capture its special moments. It took me quite some time before I was able to connect myself to being an artist, because in my mind a photographer and an artist were two distinctly different things. While they were both creative, they used entirely different processes to achieve their artistic goals. Over time, however, I have recognized the remarkable similarities in the way that we look at visual elements such as composition, colors, lines, and light. I have come to understand that what constitutes fine art stands apart from whatever techniques that we artists use to ultimately reach that special place. My...
