Artist's Description

A suicidal person hovers at the moment of decision to take their life upon an arm of the crucifix, one foot extended over the deep blue sea. Fascist soldiers of oppression lurk in the foreground. A small gathering of people stands below the cross, one with a giant ear--let those who have ears hear, totalitarian building of the city forms the vertical bar of the cross; the sun blazing begins to dawn, breaking out of the head of the would-be-suicide--there is hope, still; inside the persons head are several faces, themselves, their lower nature, the face of their parent who will mourn them if they committ the deed. Thousands of criminals petty and/or political were crucifed along the Apian Way in ancient Rome by the Roman soldiers; this self-suicide is one in a procession of others. Painted 2008.
