One of several historic steam engines in the museum next to the rail terminal at Tacna (Peru) on the Tacna to Arica railway. The railway was built by the British Arica & Tacna Railway Co when both cities were in Peru and opened in 1856. The company's 99 year operating concession was unaffected when both Arica and Tacna became part of Chilean territory after the War of the Pacific. In 1929 Tacna returned to Peru while Arica remained part of Chile. At the end of the concession in 1955 the Peruvian government took over the ownership of the railway. The line is 62km long, uses standard 1435mm gauge and is not connected to any other rail network. It is also Peru's only international railway connection.
