Artist's Description
The little playhouse waits for the growing chid who has left it behind with his old ball. I miss the little boy who played in it and so the house still stands overlooking nearby farms and the pastures turning to summer colors.
About Susan Lee Clark
As an artist, I am awed by and in love with all of God's creation! Painting landscapes, portraits of people and animals, I try to depict the essence of that individual subject. Often I will take photographs before and after some quick sketches, jotting down notes on the sketch about the color, or feeling of the piece and then begin painting. But, with portraits, sometimes having the subject actually present is not possible. Then, I need to get to know the subject, through discussion with a person who did actually know, or through biographies, photos, old paintings. Before I paint an animal or a person or even landscape, I must know about them so that I may "capture the essence" of the subject. Just looking at a photograph is not...

Susan, I already made a comment on your artwork California Coast which was picked for C/V for Round #11 so I went to your gallery and found this beautiful painting the colors were the first thing that caught my eye they are so alive and bright and cheerful and would be perfect for a child's atmosphere as you say in your description, the child's playhouse and ball which still waits for the little boy. The detail in this painting is so crisp and clear and the mountains and that sky scene as a background are perfect. Fantastic job. VOTED
Susan Lee Clark replied:
Thank you, John. I have been experimenting (this was the first) with using fixative over layers of watercolor so that you can build them more like oil glazes. Seems to give very bright results.
